A condensate trap is one of the main elements of a steam-condensate or process-type pipeline system. As the name implies, this part acts as a condensate drain, which invariably appears in the system during the transportation of hot steam or compressed air.
A steam condensate trap helps solve problems such as:
- prevention of water hammer;
- minimizing the risk of pressure drop in the system;
- reduce the fuel consumption used to maintain the steam temperature.
A steam trap also helps increase equipment life and reduce maintenance costs. The steam condensate trap prevents corrosion and extends the service life of shut-off valves.
- Mechanical models operate on the principle of distinguishing between the characteristics and properties of liquid and gaseous media. They are attractive due to their high reliability, but cannot be used at low ambient temperatures (they freeze). Used to eliminate condensation from equipment installed indoors.
- Thermostatic models operate on the principle of the difference between the temperatures of a vapor and liquid medium. Can be used in low ambient temperature conditions. Resistant to hydraulic shocks.
- Thermodynamic models work on the principle of the difference in the speed of movement of steam and condensate. Sensitive to dirt and pressure, so they are rarely used.
