Denatured alcohol

    Denaturation is the process of mixing ethanol with denaturing additives:
  • kerosene or gasoline (0.5% by volume of ethanol);
  • denatonium benzoate (0.0015% by weight of ethanol);
  • crotonic aldehyde (0.2% by volume of ethanol).

The addition of denaturing additives is carried out in order to prevent the use of denatured ethanol for food purposes, since they impart a bitter taste or unpleasant odor to ethanol. Denatured ethanol is used mainly for technical purposes or in perfumery.
