The ultrasonic level transmitter is a compact level transmitter for non-contact level measurement of liquids, pastes and solids, e.g. in loading, storage and buffer tanks. All warning and alarm messages are displayed on the four-line text display and ensure that problems are quickly resolved. Since the analysis results are displayed here, a quick and accurate diagnosis of errors is possible. The ultrasonic level transmitter is connected to the analog output (4-20 mA) and the G2 process connection via an M20 cable gland.
An ultrasonic sensor emits a pulse in the ultrasonic range. This pulse travels at the speed of sound at 344 meters per second until it hits an object. The ultrasonic pulse is reflected from the object and returned to the sensor, where an “echo” is received from it. By measuring the time it takes for a sound pulse to travel from the sensor to the object and back, the distance to the object can be accurately calculated. This measurement principle is also called "Time of Flight" or travel time measurement.
