Ultrasonic water meters are modern, high-precision water consumption metering devices. The technical solution of these devices is so advantageous and successful that in terms of quality and accuracy of work there is no point in comparing them with mechanical counters. Ultrasonic water meters have an advantage in everything - they are more favorable from a hydrodynamic point of view - they do not resist, they have a wider range of cost measurements than mechanical meters.
Ultrasonic meters are primarily electronic devices, so they are usually equipped with digital communication interfaces as standard. All ultrasonic flowmeters have an optoport on the front surface. And of course it is possible to equip with additional modules, for example, a pulse output, or a radio module or an industrial communication module MODBUS RS485, etc. Such meters are easily integrated into systems with remote transmission of readings. A special distinguishing characteristic of ultrasonic water meters is their own internal memory, which stores water consumption indicators for the last 36 months.
Ultrasonic water meters are occupying an increasingly larger place in the metering market. They are installed in apartments, offices, factories, and industrial equipment. By area of application - for almost any engineering systems - for cold or hot water supply, as a flow meter for a thermal energy meter in heating supply systems, in cooling supply systems. By size and volume of water consumption - from minimal residential to flanged industrial devices. And even where it is not possible to manufacture an ultrasonic device of the required size at the factory, there is a solution when sensors - mirrors - are placed or embedded on an existing pipeline, even of a large diameter, and an electronic computer is connected to them. We get an ultrasonic water meter of absolutely any diameter. No mechanical counter can be used in this manner.
Installing an ultrasonic water meter is almost no different from installing a conventional mechanical water meter. The requirements for the installation site are the same - the pipelines must be coaxial, no mechanical load must be transferred to the water meter body, that is, the pipes must not hang on the water meter or pull it to the side. It is necessary to install shut-off valves in front of the water meter. But installing a mesh filter for the ultrasonic water meter itself is not important; you can do without it. The filter is more needed in general for the long-term operation of water supply system devices - mixers, toilet barrels, boilers, etc. But of course there are nuances that you need to know. Under no circumstances should electric welding work be carried out on a pipeline on which an ultrasonic flow meter is installed. To perform installation and welding work, a temporary insert is used, and after all welding work is completed, it is replaced with a permanent water meter. Another point is that ultrasonic meters cannot work correctly if the water supply pipe is not completely filled with water. You should choose a place and position of the water meter in which air will not accumulate in it, this is important.
